World’s Widest f/2.8 Lens with Close-to-Zero Distortion
Featuring the widest angle of view (122°) ever built with a f/2.8 lens, this is an ideal lens for various types of photography from landscape, architecture, interior, travel to the most important, astrophotography. The lens is also the lightest and the most compact of its class and is good for everyday shooting. It also features a close-to-zero optical distortion, allowing photographers to take landscape/architecture shots with straight lines retained. A water and dust repelling ‘Frog Eye Coating’ is added at the front element of the lens. Users can use CPL / ND filters by adding an optional Laowa 100mm filter holder system.
Ultra Wide Angle lenses in the market tend to suffer an optical distortion rate from 2-5% which causes straight lines to bend. The 12mm Laowa F/2.8 lens features a *close-to-zero distortion rate that you can barely notice from your eyes. If you are not so sure what distortion is, this article may help.
* The aforementioned close-to-zero distortion rate is measured from shooting objects at infinity focus. The “distortion” in objects at a short distance is called volume deformation. Hence only the Optical Distortion (Barrel/ Pincushion/ Moustache) of this 12mm F/2.8 lens is close-to-zero.
